        China - U.S. Dialogue: Joining The Discussion -- Ivan Rasmussen

        Ivan?Willis Rasmussen is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Political Science at NYU Shanghai. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Government at Hamilton College and a Research Fellow with the International Security Program at Harvard Kennedy School’s?Belfer?Center. He holds a Ph.D. from Tufts University along with a Master’s degree also from Tufts and a B.A. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He has taught and researched at a variety of institutions including Hamilton College, Tufts University, Harvard Kennedy School, Boston College, and People’s University in Beijing. He previously worked for the US Department of State, Duke University/Gates Foundation, and the RAND Corporation. Professor Rasmussen is a member of the American Political Science Association, International Studies Association, and Association of Asian Studies along with acting as a reviewer for various journals such as International Security. His research has appeared in the Asian Journal of Public Affairs and the Chinese Yearbook of International Law and Affairs. More information can be found on his website.

        June is an accomplished Independent Marketing Consultant and Executive Coach. She has worked with various companies, including Johnson and Johnson, Merck Consumer Care, Wonder Milk, Church & Dwight, Mattel, Jahwa, Omey as well as start-up businesses such as Abest Education, Aedify Group, cakeland.com, wowyoung.org, and Ustore. She has a wealth of experience in strategic marketing, brand equity management, integrated brand communication, consumer relationship management, insight and new product development, professional marketing, and marketing talent development. June also actively participates in marketing talent education, teaching "Brand Management" at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics as well as "Fashion & Lifestyle Marketing" at Conde Nast Center of Fashion and Design. June also works as an executive mentor for CEIBS MBA ICSP and the NYU Shanghai Real Business Case program.

        U.S. History and Culture -- Deena Varner

        Deena Varner is a Global Perspectives on Society Fellow at NYU Shanghai. She holds a PhD in English from Purdue University and works in the fields of cultural studies of the law, prison studies, and feminist theory. Her research has appeared recently in Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies, the Journal of Historical Geography, and Women’s Studies. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Dr. Varner served as the competency and assessment lead in Purdue Polytechnic Institute’s transdisciplinary studies in technology program, where her team redesigned the program’s twenty core competencies and developed strategies to align instruction and in-class assessment of these outcomes in the program’s studio-based learning environment. She remains engaged in interdisciplinary education research with colleagues at Purdue in the areas of competency based education, integration of STEM and the liberal arts, and technology education for social justice and innovation.

        Introduction to Creative Coding -- Aven Le Zhou

        Le Zhou, also known as Aven, is a cross-disciplinary designer and researcher based in Shanghai. His recent work focuses on creative coding, interactive technology, computational geometry, and digital fabrication. He graduated from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a degree in architecture and is currently a consultant at Interactive Media Arts, NYU Shanghai as well as an adjunct professor at the Shanghai Art and Design Academy.

        Applied Psychology: Understanding the Brain, Thinking and Behavior --?George Hu

        Dr. George HU earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and both his Master’s degree and Doctoral (PsyD) degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. Dr. Hu, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist from the United States and is the Section Chief of Mental Health at Shanghai United Family Pudong Hospital.? He is licensed as a clinical psychologist in California, Hawaii, Beijing, and Shanghai. Previously, Dr. Hu was the Director of Mental Health at Jiahui Health in Shanghai, the Clinical Director at Octave Living, and clinical psychologist and Assistant Director of the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at Beijing United Family Hospital. Dr. Hu has been invited as an honorary guest speaker and lecturer at the Shanghai International Mental Health Association, Tsinghua University, Huadong University, Jiaotong University Medical School, the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the American Psychological Association, just to name a few.? Dr. Hu is passionate about early intervention, children’s mental health, Chinese mental health, and improving access to mental health for underserved populations.

        Sports Business in a Globalized World -- Jane (Rizhen) Wang

        Jane (Rizhen) Wang currently serves as Manager, Sports Business Intelligence at HKS Architects, one of the world’s top 10 architect firms. HKS Architects has 30 international offices and 1500 employees, and has designed the U.S. Bank Stadium, AT&T Stadium, American Airlines Center, USTA National Campus, and many more. Jane specializes in the areas of sports marketing, revenue strategy, business development, client relationship management, and project management. Previously, she has worked in various areas of the sports industry, including event operations at the Beijing Sports Bureau, sports broadcasting at FOX Sports, social media at Bayern Munich, ticketing and digital strategy at the U.S. Tennis Association, sponsorship at Engine Group, and management consulting at Bain & Company. Jane holds an M.S. in Sports Management from Columbia University, B.S. in Economics from Peking University and B.A. in Sports Industry Management from Beijing Sport University.

        Global Finance -- Nicole Wang

        Nicole Wang is a Shanghai-based financial trainer for banks (eg. Bank of China), and a guest lecturer for finance courses in many Chinese universities (eg. Shanghai Foreign Language University). She is also the founder of Mitang Academic Services, helping hundreds of overseas Chinese students with their studies when they are studying abroad. Prior to that, she was the youngest fund manager in one of Europe's largest asset management companies ING, managing over 10 billion euros together with her Fixed Income team. She also had investment banking experience while she worked with Royal Bank of Scotland in London. She obtained her Master's degree in Statistics from Columbia University, and her Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Finance from University of Amsterdam.

        Global Health: Epidemics and their Control -- Chenkai Wu

        Dr. Chenkai Wu is an Assistant Professor of Global Health and Associate Director of Graduate Studies, MSc Global Health at Duke Kunshan University. Dr. Wu has a M.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences, an M.P.H. in Bio-statistics, and a Ph. D. in Public Health from Oregon State University. His main research interests include prevention of cardiovascular disease, frailty, and disability, promotion of healthy aging and longevity, and implications of big data in clinical practice. Dr. Wu has over 10 first-authored papers in the fields of epidemiology, gerontology, and cardiovascular disease. His work has been featured in major national and international media, including the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, the National Public Radio, and Harvard Business Review.

        Seeing the "Big Picture" in Short Stories -- Clemon Courtney

        Clemon Courtney graduated from Lake Forest College with a degree in Creative Writing. At 14, the Chicago native attended Northfield Mount Hermon School, where he enjoyed reading and writing short stories when he wasn't studying or watching The Simpsons. At Lake Forest College, he worked? as a columnist for the College's newspaper and a peer tutor. After college, Clemon moved to Shanghai, intending to stay for just a year. Instantly charmed by this dynamic city, he has made Shanghai his second home after living here for 13 years. After over a decade of teaching writing, literature and test preparation at schools including Livingston American School and the Lycée Francais de Shanghai, he is now the owner and founder of a writing services company, aptly called The Write Place. Clemon is absolutely elated to share his love of English with students in a city brimming with energy and possibility!?

        Jianghao Hu (Sam) is a game designer and developer who will graduate from NYU Shanghai IMA this year. His recent work focuses on action and adventure games as well as games with social aspects. He is passionate about video games, technology, and music.

        Tourism: Digital Marketing and Social Media -- Jiayi Du

        Jiayi Du graduated from New York University with a Master's in Tourism Management and from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics with a PhD in Marketing. Currently, she is a lecturer at the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics. Her main research topics include social media and digital marketing, consumer behavior, and the entertainment industry. She also works in the training program of the Shanghai Shendi Group, which holds a 57% share of the Shanghai Disney Resort project. She has been the event leader of Shanghai NYU Alumni Club since 2013. Under her leadership, the Shanghai Alumni Club has held numerous events, including the 2nd Pan Asia Alumni Conference, happy hours, academic seminars, and the Annual Gala Dinner, among others.

        Dr. KC Lee is a psychologist specialising in Contextual Behavioural Science and trans-diagnostic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches. He completed his doctoral studies in Counselling Psychology in London and holds a Masters in Social Science in Professional Counselling (Singapore) and a Masters in Psychology (London). His areas of specialty includes treating depression symptoms and anxiety disorders, marriage counselling, stress, addiction and other mental health and mental disorders, as well as personal and professional coaching. Dr. Lee is also an academic staff member familiar with tertiary education, including thesis and research supervision. He also provides clinical supervision to trainee counsellors and psychologists. He has practiced clinically in Singapore, London and Shanghai in wide ranging settings, and speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

        Creative Writing: Finding Truth in Fiction -- Genevieve Leone

        Genevieve Leone is a Lecturer in the Writing program at NYU Shanghai. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she was a lecturer at the American Language Institute of NYU in New York City. In addition, she has taught at the Parsons School of Design, The New School in New York City, and the University of California, Irvine. She holds an MFA in poetry writing from the University of California, Irvine. She has published poems in a number of print and online publications.

        Digital Filmmaking: Telling a Story Through Technology -- Yifan Hu /?Li Wanyu

        ?Cindy Yifan Hu is a new media artist, designer and researcher based in Shanghai. Her work focuses on exploring how technology enables new narratives in storytelling, education and visual culture. She graduated from NYU Shanghai Interactive Media Arts program and is now an Associate Fellow here.

        Liwa is a visual designer, photographer and video maker. She is devoted to produce video documentaries, motion graphics, audio visual performance and design graphics and exhibitions. She has made videos for many companies like robotic company GOOGOL TECH for marketing, IQIYI for entertaining shows, OF Course for online classes and Art Machines for exhibition documentaries. She currently works for Art Machines as a visual designer. Prior to that, she was a multimedia & visual designer at OF COURSE.

        Fashion Beyond Borders: Sustainability and the Future of the Global Fashion Industry -- Lu Min

        From Beijing to Shanghai, with studies at Polimoda (Florence), FIT New York and IFM Paris, for more than 20 years, Lu Min has followed her creative path, and covered almost all areas of the fashion industry from design and merchandising to branding and marketing. After working with Donna Karan, Givenchy and Hugo Boss, she built the first all-in-one design studio in Shanghai for high-end fashion brands. She has also worked with various artists and brands for experimental projects, such as AD, street performance and installation art. In recent years, she has been a consultant for fast growing Chinese and Taiwanese commercial brands. Her latest activities are sustainable design motivation, digital marketing, branding strategy, and continuing education.
